about the website
This is the fifth domain name I've owned, so that's excluding several
Geocities and Freewebs sites I might have had along the way. I maintain it through
Dreamhost, which is expensive, but problem-free and uninhibiting. In order I've had myoku.com (co-hosted with my old friend Skye-chan), eternityinaday.net, sins-erased.net, thepaperstars.net, and finally o-my-soul.net. :)
I got into webdesign through a chain of internet-related adventures when I was going into middle school. I've always had stories and characters, so they've fueled the focus of my webdesign pretty much from day one.
I love webdesign. I love the satisfaction of turning meaningless lines of text into aesthetically pleasing arrangements. I suppose my love for webdesign supports a love I have for language.
about the layout
(edit: 3/17/2011 at 11:36pm) Ah! Smoothest revival of a layout EVER. :)
I had started to get sick of the beautiful boys as the image probably because of how...umm, crisp the image was, and plus the composition was driving me batty.
So I got it in my head a few days ago that I wanted this singular portrait as an image, and Danny was a natural choice. This is sort of a derivative of a pose that I liked that was too GQ-ish, combined with the idea of Danny shying away from the light, which I think is evident here.
All of the image was done in Corel Painter except for the
texture on his shirt and the actual assembly of the parts for the layout.
So, here we go! I think that even if he looks freaky and pissed off, that's a step up from the last image because this has EMOTION. It's also in my "mark." I'm more settled with this being done digitally given tht it's not trying to be WOOOFINE. It's just my line. :)
(1/7/2011 at 9:47pm)I think this has broken a record.
I've basically been working on this layout for twelve continuous hours (excluding minor trips around my house to flail about in frustration...and the time I took working up ideas yesterday).
Now - looking at it, it's not only relatively similar to the library boys layout, but the coding is also sloppier.
All right. That's all I'll criticize it for today.
It features Micah, Sotoka-Khepri, and Danyil from
Redefining Evil. They were all drawn using a combination of Corel Painter 11 (for the antialias lines) and Paint Shop Pro 7 (for everything else). As usual, Sotoka looks awesome, and the other two look a little funny.
There is not a single brush from someone else's hand in this picture. All the swirly things in the background were done in PSP by hand.
The font is called "Remmington Noiseless" from
DaFont and I used it in part to annoy Margaret, because it's the font that she said she didn't like on a draft of the RE cover. :D But I used it on the RE cover because I like it.
Like the previous layout, it's coded with a combination of CSS, tables, image maps and image slices. I had to use PSP for the slicing because every attempt to put the images together myself FAILED MISERABLY.
Seriously. I need to go sift through all the files on my computer to get rid of the versions of this that I am not now using. It drives my organizational self CRAZY.
Anyway - I do like it. It's been frustrating having so many complications in getting it coded (especially given that it was originally just going to be an expanded DIV until I couldn't present the menu in a satisfying way, at which point I switched to frames).
BOY. I'd say this is the longest layout ramble in a while. Yaaay?
